A 5-day workshop for creators with a new idea or ongoing project at the Cuib 176 residency close to Cluj-Napoca, in the heart of Transylvania at the foot of the Apuseni Mountains.

Next to mental, emotional and psychological processes, Waking Up To Imagination takes the body as an important key to understanding where you are in respect to your project. The work invites you to enter a state of curiosity and not-knowing; aims to create perspective shifts, and free you from habitual behaviour. You are invited to rely less on engaging the will, and more on a way of being in the world, drawing upon a rested, alert intelligence, with the courage to simplify and act. You are invited to surrender to the lifestream and use it creatively. New, unforseen paths open up for both you and your project.

At the heart of the work are the methods as applied within the practice of Integrated Psychotherapy (Character Styles, Insightful Communication, Bodydrama, Reichian Breathing, Group Dynamics). This is complemented with Systemic Work and Embodied Imagination.

The various methods intersect, underscore and strengthen one another. We investigate and explore the interaction between you and your project until insights and images surface and are uncovered, contributing to the work. Also the feedback and reflections of other participants enrich the creative processes profoundly.

CUIB176 integrates into the magical atmosphere of the Transylvanian Medieval Village as a fusion space and experiment for filmmakers, writers, perfomers, composers and visual artists, activists, teachers and students interested in sharing their stories and visions by connecting with a multiethnic rural community.

Rik Vermeulen obtained a master’s degree in Film and Television Studies and is trained in Integrated Psychotherapy. He runs a Therapy Practice and has previously worked for the International Film Festival Rotterdam (Programme Department, Film Office), Transilvania International Film Festival (Executive Director) and Noordelijk Film Festival (Artistic Director). Other experience includes the production of short fiction films and membership of the selection committee of the Dutch Film Fund.
